Lone Star Snot
Subscribe To Our FeedI grew up in a small country town spanning vast land in the great state of Texas. I loved my backyard full of bluebonnets, meadows of grass, and of course ragweed. Since my childhood, however, I have enjoyed none of this due to my severe allergy to the outdoors of Texas.
My brother and sister would play outside with the neighbor kids for hours, while I was inside nursing my swelling eyes, runny nose, and sneezing fits. Hot days at school, I couldn’t sit by an open window. I felt plagued by a deathly illness every Spring that was sure to claim my life, only to find it repeatedly diagnosed as seasonal allergies.
I’m sure I am not alone in my desire to completely enjoy the splendor of Spring from the fresh air outside, and not from inside a window next to a humidifier. I also have pledged my life to find a solution for clear sinuses throughout the year. I will not miss another night’s sleep due to pressure in my nose and forehead, or overly clogged airways.
Here’s what I have tried. Perhaps you, like me, have ventured far too many times to the doctor and pharmacist to waste thousands of dollars on allergy relieving agents. Of course, medicine’s are always an easy solution to 24 hour allergy relief.
It is often assumed that prescription strength medicine does better to conquer the battle against allergens. Over-the-counter drugs are so, not because they are less effective, but merely because they have paid off their debts of production and can now sell freely to the masses. Any of these products can help you with your allergies at any time. Will it be enough though?
In my case, definitely not, I need more than a pill. Especially since I prefer not to succumb to those strong pills with serious side effects like constant drowsiness and a dry mouth of cotton. My medication needs some back-up to help my body fight off the histamines.
One such product is an air purifier. They range from being quite affordable to very expensive, depending on which you prefer. I invested in a Honeywell system that is adequate for the square footage of my apartment, for the same price I would have used in nasal sprays for a year. Immediately I felt a change in the air I was breathing, especially at night, just by having this machine on.
To also help moisten the air and help your breathing, humidifiers are excellent. Many doctors have recommended this particularly effective for small children. Before you turn to nasal sprays, take caution. They can make your nose dependent on them by robbing your sinuses of natural moisture. If any are used at all, try basic saline nose solution that you can use frequently with no side effects.
But, for a more complete nasal cleansing, my new favorite idea is the SinuCleanse. This is doctor developed solution has mastered the art of natural decongesting. It has replaced all other methods of decongesting that I have previously used.
The teapot design is used by filling the product with lukewarm water and a packet or two of the included saline solution, at least morning and night. You then will put the spout up your nose on one side and tilt your head opposite so that the water runs through to the other side, and do it for about 25 seconds, then repeat on the other side. Then you will see the amazing results.
Even when I wake up in the morning without any congestion at all, I still use the SinuCleanse, and I feel like a dam breaks in my nose releasing so much hidden mucus. After using it, your nose drips for a few minutes with all the excess, and you will breath better than you can remember breathing ever before. I have experienced a complete conversion to this method, since it has brought rebirth to my nose and struggling nasal issues, as it will do also for anyone with a slight sinus complaint.
Wherever we live, the beautiful land surrounding us doesn’t need to be our enemy. Whether you live in Arizona, Texas, Oregon, or Siam, there is a solution to the allergies around you. Texas especially is abundant with vast acreage and property full of allergens trying to ruin our fun. Enjoy all the plants in your backyard without having it interrupted by one single sneeze.

Allergic to The Great State of Texas
Subscribe To Our FeedI grew up in a small country town spanning vast land in the great state of Texas. I loved my backyard full of bluebonnets, meadows of grass, and of course ragweed. Since my childhood, however, I have enjoyed none of this due to my severe allergy to the outdoors of Texas.

I also have pledged my life to find a solution for clear sinuses throughout the year. I will not miss another night’s sleep due to pressure in my nose and forehead, or overly clogged airways.
Now let’s talk about what I’ve tried. Many of us make far too many trips to the doctor and pharmacist to spend thousands on any product with the promise of relief. Medicine is always an option for constant relief of any allergy, especially if you live in Texas.
We need not assume that a prescription medication is required to relieve allergy symptoms. When a drug becomes over-the-counter, that simply means that they have paid off their debts for production and can now be sold in mass numbers for a lower price. These products are very useful in alleviating sinus problems. But is it enough?
If your case is similar to mine, where you are apparently allergic to everything around you, the answer is no, a pill will not suffice. Especially since I forgo taking the stronger decongestants that are accompanied by drowsiness and constant dry cotton mouth. I back my medication up with other products I can tell you about to reduce your exposure to allergens.
First on the list is an air purifier. The prices for this appliance can range from being very affordable to very expensive, depending on what you want. I opted for a Honeywell system that runs easily through all the square footage of my apartment and it only cost me what I saved in not buying nasal sprays for a month. After the first day, I have noticed a substantial difference in my ability to breath, especially during the night.
Humidifiers are an excellent source of nasal moistening. Almost all doctors would recommend this, especially for smaller children. Some nasal sprays need to be used cautiously. They will eventually rob your nose of natural moisture, causing a dependence on them. If you feel the need to, try first a simple saline solution nasal spray.
A better idea exists to completely irrigate your sinus cavity, and that is the SinuCleanse. Doctors have worked to create a masterful solution to natural decongesting. This now stands alone as the only method of nasal decongestant that I use.
We should let the beautiful land we live in destroy our ability to enjoy it. Solutions do exist to allergy and nasal problems wherever you live. Especially the vast state of Texas, where there is so much to enjoy, and so many allergens trying to prevent us from doing so. Take a stroll out across acres of property without a single sneeze once you’ve tried some of these suggestions.

Living With A Food Allergy
Subscribe To Our FeedChances are you know at least one person that has a food allergy. Food allergies have become increasingly common in recent years and luckily awareness has increased as well. Anyone with a food allergy knows what a serious topic this is as it can send a sufferer to the emergency room or even cause a fatality.
Because so many people have food sensitivities sometimes people think they have a food allergy when they really have a food intolerance. The two conditions are distinctly different.
People who have a food intolerance will have a delayed reaction to the trigger food, but if there is a true food allergy the reaction to the trigger will usually be seen within minutes. Also an allergy is an immune response while an intolerance is generally caused by a lack of necessary enzymes to properly digest the food.
A food allergy is called an immune response because the allergy reaction is caused by a response from the immune system. The immune system is constantly working to take care of the body and shield it from harm. It views this allergen as a potentially damaging substance so it starts working to defend the body. To help the body defend itself the system releases specific protective chemicals, one of these being histamine which triggers the allergy symptoms.
How do you know if you’re having an allergic reaction? Some of the signs are a tingly feeling in or around the mouth, swelling of the tongue, throat or lips, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hives or shortness of breath. In more serious cases the reaction can lead to anaphylactic shock which involves several systems in the body and can even lead to death.
The types of foods that cause allergy reactions can be slightly different in different countries, but there are eight foods that seem to be the leading cause of food allergies in most countries. These big eight include peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, shellfish, seafood, wheat and soy.
The best treatment for allergies is to avoid the allergen. This may sound simple enough with a food allergy (vs and airborne allergy), but unfortunately it isn’t always that easy. Often times these allergens may be hidden in processed foods. To help with this the U.S. requires that food labels list the eight common allergens.
While this has been quite helpful it doesn’t guarantee the foods are pure and completely safe for allergy sufferers. The other problem is the possibility of cross-contamination. This happens when a machine that processes a food that contains a common allergen is also used for foods that don’t contain an allergen. Even though the machines are cleaned, traces of the allergen can remain.
Those who suffer from food allergies need to fully understand food labels and they need to read them carefully. They will also need to know the other possible names of ingredients that can contain specific allergens. For example those with a milk protein allergy will also need to avoid casein because it is a form of milk protein.
Anyone with allergies should know the signs of an allergy reaction so they can tell if they may have come in contact with the allergen. They should also know how to treat themselves; this usually includes using an epinephrine injector.
